folly staff
I am an unapologetic geek, and am passionate about the need to understand all the implications of all new technologies. This often means being more creative about how they can be used, breaking them and rebuilding them, and being willing to take a chance.
I joined folly shortly after being commissioned as an artist to provide new work for the 2000 Digital Arts Festival. Since then my role has been to provide leadership and the strategic direction for folly. This has been an exciting journey so far, developing and working with a committed team of staff and undertaking innovative and inspiring projects.
From 2009 I am particularly proud that folly has joined forces with FACT (Liverpool) and Cornerhouse (Manchester) to deliver a new regionwide festival - see AND festival. I have also been instrumental in the development of Love Culture seeing this as an important opportunity to make a real difference to the cultural sector in taking a lead on digital engagement and placing the audience at the heart of cultural organisations thinking.
I currently live in the Lake District fully enjoying all that it has to offer. I was last seen completing the Great North Swim and raising money for the charity Mind. You can follow me on Twitter.
I provide artistic leadership for folly and have influenced the organisation's growth and direction over the last 6 years. I am responsible for managing a fantastic team to deliver an ambitious and cutting edge programme of work. I am passionate about original ideas, working with artists and technology, seeking out and taking risks with new modes of production, presentation and distribution.
I am an active member of a number of strategic regional groups set up to advocate and promote the visual arts and I have a background as a practitioner and funder.
I am currently working on presenting Abandon Normal Devices across Lancashire and Cumbria and have also been instrumental in the development of Portable Pixel Playground, Digital Artists Handbook and folly's growing residency programme.
Mother of one very energetic 2 year old, I now spend half of my time frequenting baby sites and participating in mums forums and activities.
I started working at folly in 2006, with an academic background in fine art practice, curation and arts management, and have worked on numerous projects during my time here. I am currently responsible for Cumbrian project development, and the FLI and Radar residency schemes.
I’m passionate about participatory and collaborative approaches in the production and experience of new art. I’m interested in exploring the boundaries of how art can be made, shared and experienced, and how new artistic perspectives can change how we all think about and live our lives.
I'm in my 8th year of working at folly, having started off as a freelance gallery technician whilst studying for my computer science degree at Lancaster University I have worked my way to being the Technical Manager. I work part-time for folly which allows me the space to split my time between my two passions in life - unabashed geekery and music. Currently concentrating on learning the night skies, starting my own brewery, and coaxing Victor Noir from his Parisian grave-top abode.
