MA in Arts Management, Policy and Practice
The University of Manchester's MA in Arts Management, Policy and Practice is recruiting for its 2010 intake.
This vocational programme is designed for those wanting to develop their career in the arts and cultural sector. Through its balance of practical and theoretical content, the course has been designed to prepare graduates as managers and policy-makers, leaders and producers in a variety of branches of the arts, cultural and creative industries.
The programme has a strong hands-on element including opportunities for accredited internships within the vibrant North-West cultural sector and the option to undertake a practice-based dissertation. This year's students are doing placements at a diverse range of organisations from the Manchester arts venues such as the Chinese Arts Centre and Cornerhouse to the City Council Cultural Strategy Team and Lakes Alive, the outdoor arts leaders based in Cumbria. The programme encourages critical engagement with the philosophical, political, social and economic imperatives informing contemporary cultural policy and practice through core units on Arts Management and Cultural Policy, a range of optional units (covering specialist areas such as Creative Learning, Arts Marketing and Finance), guest speakers and research seminars. It can be taken full-time or part-time alongside employment.
"The MA encourages me to think critically about issues that I tend to face on a daily basis in my job or that are completely new concepts" (Holly Goldup, Public Sector & Trusts Officer, Tate Liverpool and current part-time MA student).
"The University of Manchester is an ideal place to study an arts and culture related course as it provides cutting-edge knowledge and easy access to numerous local arts and cultural venues in Manchester and in neighbouring cities" (Jing Wen, current full-time MA student).
