Exciting opportunity - Art in the public realm commission
Are you an innovative artist, designer or maker with the vision to make your mark on England’s most northerly city? Carlisle is inviting tenders from visionary artists keen to have their work enjoyed by thousands, as an integral part of an exciting public realm scheme in the Historic Quarter.
This commission is to develop and deliver bespoke artwork to be incorporated into x9 monolithic benches as part of a public realm enhancement scheme at Castle Street, Carlisle. With Carlisle City Council as your client, you’ll be expected work creatively to get local people involved in developing the artwork, through a single public engagement workshop. From this you’ll create your artwork and designs for the stone benches. You’ll also work directly with a stone supplier throughout the process. The street furniture will be installed in 2010 as the closing element of extensive public realm works.
The commission will be offered as an open competition with shortlisted artists invited for interview on 27 July.
Tenders are invited by the closing date, which is 15 July.
